    Audible Chocolate
#dos – it wasn’t like sexual. it was house music.

when i heard jersey shore was going to be a show, i got excited cause i know how retarded the jersey shore actually is since i lived in jersey for a piece.  it’s absurdly popular now, and i hate being part of bandwagons whether i started them or not.  nevertheless, it was simply too juicy to pass up.  go beat that beat up!

…not so much because of the dancing aspect but rather because of the unapologetic use of cheese dance and j-pop.  the time period in which i played DDR with any frequency (between 7 and 5 years ago) was before i listened to anything other than ska, emo, and a touch of what essentially at the time was pop punk.   at the very least, it was before i was even remotely interested in house, disco, or anything else within a shade of dancy.  interestingly enough, my favorite song in DDR was always a disco house track called “Kind Lady” by Okuyatos, a Japanese producer.  i say interesting, because it seems possible that i might have always liked disco house – i just didn’t know it yet.  so, while i was gathering tracks for the upcoming podcast, i luckily remembered this tune and managed to find a decent copy of the track.  of course, the original is only a buck thirty due to it being a DDR track.  There is an extended cut which eclipses the 7 minute mark, but it is really just the short version at the front and back with a 4 minute slap bass breakdown sandwiched in between.  Not too mention, it was a touch lacking in the “umfph” department.  Thus, i took it back to the shop and worked some magic to come back with the supermucho edit!  Enjoy.

Okuyatos – Kind Lady [supermucho 2k10 edit]

it’s truly amazing how well motown and disco go together.  historically, this observation borders on intuitive given the close ancestry between the two musical styles.  regardless, it still revs me up to mix the two since i am such a big fan of both.  i found some nice Stevie Wonder vocals to throw over top of a recent track from Nighty Max called “Beach Hut.”  If you’re down, run over and check out his myspace.  It’s solid.

the astute among you might recognize this one.  it was in the first AC podcast.  i made it while i was putting tracks together for the first podcast cause i liked the Nighty Max track so much but I felt it needed vocals.  A lot of the current disco house that is being made (which isn’t too much. a lot of the so called “disco” being produced right now is not disco.  don’t let beatport and blogs ((or me, for that matter)) skew your perception of music!) with half bar samples of older tracks.  While the beats are getting a nice upgrade with the help of faster tempos and contemporary mixing techniques, the overall songs are, dare i say, a bit of on the boring side.  They are just so damn repetitive.  Personally, I like music that moves and takes you somewhere.  I can only surmise that this is why my mixing sounds kinda ADD at times.  I get bored listening to the same song for too long.   But, I digress.  Anywho, i’ve been working on a few original productions and a remix for the past 2-3 weeks, so in the meantime, i decided to finish this guy off and bounce him out just for you!  that’s how nice i am.

also, the mailman did bring me something nice (though i will admit i had to wait a little longer than expected), so prepare for a new podcast real soon.  pending the northeast does actually get a snow storm rendering me trapped in doors, i may just record it this weekend.

there is little doubt that my favorite blond country/pop singer is Carrie Underwood.  she is basically America personified.  saying you don’t like Carrie is pretty much the equivalent of saying you hate Brett “The Strongest Torso in Football” Favre, classic rock songs at college bars, or Starbucks.  as i dislike all three of those things, i suppose i might be obliged to like Carrie, but I promise it is more than that.  i believe she is both a talented singer and insanely attractive.  so yeah, now that that’s settled, i present to you my taylor swift mashup.

for the next podcast, i was originally trying to decide whether to give you some head bangin, face smashing, electro bugaloo or a little taste of the blues. i can’t even tell you the countless number nights i spent agonizing over this dilemna as they are both quite close to my heart (though i will admit the latter is a shade closer). fortunately for me, jersey shore, my new favorite television program (mostly cause “always sunny” was a touch downhill this past season) made the decision for me -> house! so i’ve been gathering some groovy records in preparation for it and it’s going to take me a few more days as i had to order some older tracks that i couldn’t find online. and no, i don’t remember a time when songs weren’t released online either. me and napster were buddies in 7th grade. nevertheless, i managed to find a few tracks that were put out on something called a “vinyl.” they were just so good that i would have been doing you all a great disservice to create this mix without them, so we’ll wait a few days and hope the mailman brings me something nice.

in the interim, i thought i’d throw you a couple mixes by some other djs since it turns out that i’m not the only person who mixes. weird. i know, right? anywho, here’s a couple to check out.

    Todd Edwards – Treehouse mix

A Christian dj and producer based out of jersey, Todd has been in the game for close to two decades and consistently puts out quality. He co-produced “Face to Face” with Daft Punk which was a #1 in 2004. He is undoubtedly a favorite of mine and an absolute legend. This is a recent garage house promo mix he put together in support of his monthly Treehouse party in Brooklyn.  It’s so good I’m listening to it right now.

    Henry’s Roller Disco Mix

If you liked the first podcast, you’ll like this mini mix.  It’s a bit of old school, chilled out disco with some modern flair, perfect for all those evenings at the roller rink.

Dirty South Joe – Brick Bandits Breakout!

Dirty South Joe and the Brick Bandits are a local DJ/Producer collective that is best known for their baltimore/philly club beats.  this is a mix of just that.   it came out a year ago on the Mad Decent Podcast which i highly rec subscribing to if you enjoy hearing music you’ve never heard before.  furthermore, Mad Decent is a philly record label run by Diplo.  what’s not to love??

    Essential Mix 5-24-2008 – MSTRKRFT

if you didn’t go to the MSTRKRFT show at the E factory on new years, you missed out on a solid time.  they are canadian and they play electro and other fun stuff.

    Essential Mix 4-10-2005 – Mylo

Dear Mylo,  please release more music. sincerely, mucho

for those wondering, the Essential Mix is a weekly program on BBC Radio 1 where they invite a prolific dj or producer of the times to do a two hour mix of whateve they want.  it’s almost always awesome.  except when they have hardcore techno guys on…….i’m not a huge fan of techno.  on a related note, BBC Radio 1 is probably the best radio station in the world.  I think it’s on satellite, but for those us not fortunate enough, you can stream it live from their website and i suggest you check it out.  Annie Mac’s show on friday afternoons (2-4pm EST) is particularly amazing.

that’s all i got for you tonight.  if you got something, throw me a link in the comments and then everyone else can enjoy it too!

    emergency

philanights.com is currently down.  **gasp**  as its not my domain, i can’t promise it’s going to be back up anytime soon.  but, more importantly, this also means the podcast is down! oh no. **slightly bigger gasp** fret not though, for this gives me a prime oppurntunity to migrate the podcast over to my own site (right here!).  this does mean that i’m going to have to go through the apple application process again so it might not be listed on itunes for a couple weeks but i’ll be posting the feed on this site this week at some point.

not to mention, i’ve been workin on a bunch of stuff including a couple original tracks so i got a bunch in store for everyone.  stay tuned!

the first time i ever saw paramore was at the north star bar in philly about 4 years ago.  there was like 50 people there and it was awesome.  they’ve pretty much blown up since then, but i’m still in love with hayley’s voice and the breakdown from “crushcrushcrush” is just killer.  luckily, baron von detweiler was nice enough to hook me up with the acapella for it!  i went 180 degrees on this one.  justice is about as far as you can possibly get from pop punk, so i fig’d it would destroy all to mash the two up.  and, as it turns out, it does destroy all.  enjoy.
